At the beginning of the 2015 season, many expected that the Warren County Middle School Screaming Devils would struggle to win even one game this Season. According to Coach Johnson, some area coaches even pointed to the schedule at the summer meeting and pointed out the games that would not even be close. Instead of entering the season with an already defeated mindset, Coach Johnson used the words of those familiar with the program as motivation to prove the naysayers wrong.
Wednesday's league championship game at The Brickyard in Thomson was the culmination of a season spent proving that the Screaming Devils, while small in number, could make big things happen. The Screaming Devils lost only one game in the regular season and proved to most everyone that these Devils are ready to compete with anyone.

The championship game saw Warren County matched up once again with the only team that they had lost to all year. Thomson defeated the Screaming Devils by the score of 20-8 in the final game of the regular season at Albert J. Massey Field in Warrenton.

Warren County took the opening kickoff and struggled to get their offense going in their first possession. Coach Johnson decided to gamble early in the game and went for it on 4th and about 5 from the Warren County 35 yard line. The Bulldogs stopped the Devils for a loss on the play and took over with excellent field position on the Warren County 33.

The Bulldogs quickly took advantage of the short field and scored their first points of the contest on a one yard run by Casey Donald. The two point conversion was good and Thomson held an 8-0 lead with 3:49 to go in the first quarter.

Coach Johnson had stated before the game that he felt his best defense against Thomson would be to keep his offense on the field. That is exactly what his team did in their second possession. After the ensuing kickoff, the Devils offense took the field at their own 34 yard line. Warren County then put together a drive that went 66 yards and kept the ball out of the hands of the Thomson offense for seven minutes and 48 seconds. The drive was capped off by a two yard touchdown run by Justin Allen. The two point conversion was no good, and Thomson held an 8-6 lead with 4:01 to go in the first half.

Lavosea Carroll would give Warren County another opportunity to put points on the board late in the second quarter when he intercepted a pass for the Screaming Devils near mid field. The Devils were unable to move the football however, and turned the ball back over to the Bulldogs with a little over a minute to go in the half.

Thomson moved the ball down to the one yard line before punching it in on fourth down with only 9 seconds to go in the half. The touchdown and two point conversion made the score 16-6 at the half.

With Carroll struggling from the effects of an injury sustained last week, the Devils found it difficult to mount a charge in the second half. The number of Warren County players who play both offense and defense began to take its toll as the game progressed. The Bulldogs posted 18 points in the second half to win the game by the score of 34-6.

The loss didn't dampen the spirits of neither the Warren County coaches or players. Assistant Coach, Jack Jennings stated, "This is only our first year together as a staff and we made it all the way to the big game."sswannhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11788468673405984607noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36809404.post-51882623139987775702015-10-05T10:50:00.003-04:002015-10-05T10:50:57.523-04:00Lincoln County's Winning Streak ContinuesLincoln County's dominance over Warren County on the football field continued for another year last Friday night. Lincoln County once again won the annual battle of the Devils by the score of 31-0. Warren County entered the game with a team that was short handed and hampered by injuries. Missing from the Screaming Devil line-up were My'Quan Loney, Stedman Hall, and Timothy Seals.

While Warren County's offense struggled to get anything going in the first quarter, the Red Devils had no problem moving the ball. Lincoln County scored three times in the first quarter and led 17-0 at the horn. The Red Devils added more points late in the second quarter with a 6 yard run by Quay Hartfield to extend their lead to 24-0 at the half. The final score of the game for Lincoln County came in the third quarter when Hartfield broke a 48 yard run for a touchdown. The score and extra point pushed the Red Devil lead to 31-0.

Jaden Hawkins was the leading rusher in a Warren County offense that struggled to gain yardage against the Red Devils. Hawkins rushed for 39 yards on 12 carries. Jermaine Berry added 18 yards on 14 carries.
The Warren County Middle School Screaming Devils defeated the T.J. Elder Middle School Hawks of Washington County for the second time this season Wednesday afternoon. The win advanced the Devils to a championship game rematch with Thomson Middle school in the Brickyard next Wednesday afternoon.

Washington County kicked off to start the game and Warren County wasted no time in proving why the Wing-T offense is still effective today. The Devils slowly and methodically marched the ball all the way down the field and scored on a run by Lavosea Carroll. The opening drive by the Devils left less than 2:30 to go in the first quarter. The two point conversion was no good and Warren County led by the score of 6-0.

Washington County came right back however and orchestrated a quick scoring drive of their own to put points on the board before the end of the first period. Their two point conversion was good and the Hawks led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Both offenses struggled to move the ball throughout the 2nd quarter. Carroll finally found some running room for the Devils late in the period. On 4th and 8 from the Warren County 38 yard line, Carroll ran a sweep to the near sideline and went the distance for a 62 yard touchdown. The two point conversion failed again and Warren County led 12-8.

The Devils' Wing-T offense did its job and kept the ball out of the hands of the Hawks. Neither team would score again and Warren County got the victory by the score of 12-8.

Wednesday's game in the Brickyard will again be broadcast on the radio and internet by WTHO. If you were able to be there in person or if you listened on the radio, it was one heck of a game this afternoon at Albert J. Massey Field in Warrrenton. As Scott Swann said, it was the game of the week!! Two very good teams from two close-knit communities battled it out in a tight game. Though Thomson-McDuffie Middle School came away with the 20-8 victory, the player of the game has to be Mr. Jatavian Allen of the Screaming Devils. I don't know how many times we called out #23 for making the tackle or delivering a key block, but he was always in the middle of the action. If you listened to the broadcast, you heard us reference both his physical size and the size of his heart. This 7th grader is one tough young man. Jatavian, his parents, coaches, and school have a lot to be proud of with this fellow.
Warren County Middle School entered the final regular season game undefeated against the undefeated Thomson Bulldogs Wednesday. Bragging rights as well as home field advantage in the playoffs were on the line when the two teams took the field. Fans from both teams expected an exciting game and were treated to exactly what they came to see.

Thomson won the coin toss and elected to kickoff to start the game. Warren County's first possession reminded the Bulldog fans how effective the Wing-T offense can be when run properly. The Screaming Devils kept the football on the ground, picking up three or four yards per carry and grinding up the clock. The Devils kept the ball most of the first quarter until finally turning it over on a fumble at about the 30 yard line with under 2:00 to go in the first.
Thomson quickly took advantage of the Warren County turn over. Dylan Hobbs broke loose for the Bulldogs for a 50 yard touchdown run to put Thomson on the board first with a 6-0 lead.

Warren County would answer the Bulldog drive with a score of their own. The Devils put together another long drive that ended with a short one yard run by Lovasea Carroll for a touchdown. Justin Stanford punched it in for the two point conversion giving the Screaming Devils an 8-6 lead in the second quarter.
The Thomson depth of roster seemed to begin to get to the Devils towards the end of the second quarter. Dairon Jones broke loose for the second score of the afternoon for the Bulldogs and put them back in the lead at the end of the first half. This time the two point conversion was good and the Bulldogs led 14-8.

Thomson would add 6 more in the third quarter on another touchdown by Jones to make it 20-8. The Devils had their chances to score, but came up just short. Warren County had the ball first and goal at the seven yard line, but were unable to put the ball into the end zone. The Devils were driving again at the end of the game inside Bulldog territory as time ticked down on the scoreboard.

The Thomson victory means that the Bulldogs will face Louisville in the Brickyard next Wednesday while Warren County will have a rematch with Washington County at Albert J. Massey Field. The winner of both games will meet in the Brickyard the following Wednesday to determine the region championship.
The Screaming Devils hoped to build upon last week's win at Harlem, but the Warriors of Wilkinson County proved to be too much for a Warren County team still trying to regroup from the loss of its main running back. The Devils also struggled to overcome several other big game day injuries during the 38-6 loss Friday night.

Warren County took the opening kick off and took over on offense with good field position after a 23 yard return gave the Devils the ball at their own 35 yard line. The Devil's first offensive series would last only one play. On the first play from scrimmage, Jarvis Collins attempted a 20 yard pass to My'Kuan Loney. Clarence Jackson had the ball played perfectly for the Warriors however and went up to make the interception at the Wilkinson County 45 yard line.
The Warriors didn't fair much better in their opening series of the night. After picking up a first down and getting the ball down to about the 37 yard line, Wilkinson County's first drive of the night stalled and they were forced to punt on 4th and 10. After a penalty pushed the Devils back to the 7 yard line, Jarvis Collins took the hand off for the Devils and ran for 78 yards to put the Devils in scoring position. A few plays later, Jermaine Berry would walk into the end zone for Warren County's only score of the night.

Turnovers and injuries plagued the Devils for the rest of the night and prevented them from putting more points on the board. Johnquezus Neal, Jaquavius Fowler, Stedman Hall, and Maleek Evans all suffered injuries Friday night. Those injuries, combined with the loss of running back Timothy Seals, made it very difficult for Warren County to mount a counter attack to the passing game of Wilkinson County.

The Screaming Devils have a much needed off week this Friday night and hope the extra time will work to heal some of their injuries. Warren County travels to Lincoln County next week to take on the Red Devils in a region match-up.
Warren County Middle School extended their perfect season record to 4-0 with a win over Washington-Wilkes Wednesday. The victory was also the second consecutive shut out for a Devil defense that has improved every game this season.

The Screaming Devils got off to a slow start in the first quarter. The Devils turned the ball over on downs after taking the opening kickoff to start the game. The defense then came in for Warren County and quickly set the tone for the rest of the game. While the offense got their feet under them throughout the first half, the defense steadily backed the Tigers into a hole.
Warren County would finally put points on the scoreboard in the 2nd quarter when Justin Stanford broke through the line to block a punt by the Washington-Wilkes punter deep in Tiger territory. Tony Wynn recovered the ball for the Devils on the one yard line and two plays later, Lovasea Carroll walked into the end zone untouched. The two point conversion was good and Warren County led 8-0 to go in the 2nd quarter.

The Devil defense went right back to work and held the Tigers in four straight plays for no gain, quickly giving the Warren County offense the ball once again in Tiger territory. With time running out in the 1st half, Carroll broke free for a 40 yard touchdown run. This time the two point conversion was no good and the Devils led 14-0 at the half.
The Devils would score again for the final time in the 3rd quarter. The two point conversion made the final score 22-0.

The coaching staff praised the team for their outstanding defensive play this season. The Devils have only given up a total of 16 points this season, two of which coming from a safety.

Warren County's defense will face its biggest test of the season next week when Thomson Middle School visits Albert J. Massey Field. While Thomson lost earlier in the season to Burke County, both teams are undefeated in league play. The winner of Wednesday's game will not only earn bragging rights between the two communities, but will also be granted home field advantage throughout the league playoffs.
Kick off is set for 5:00 September 23rd in Warrenton.
The Screaming Devils overcame an adversity filled week and literally ran away with a victory in overtime Friday night against the Bulldogs of Harlem. The Devils were playing without their leading rusher after Timothy Seals was accidentally shot over the weekend. Seals was released from the hospital Friday and joined his teammates for the game in a car parked inside the fence behind the north end zone.

The Devils struggled to get things going on the ground without Seals in the early going. A wet field
made it difficult for both teams and neither the Bulldogs or the Devils managed to put points on the board in the first quarter.

Zantez Hudson makes a tackle for Warren County

Jarvis Collins, wearing Seals' jersey, got the Devils on the board in the 2nd quarter. Collins found a hole up the middle for a 27 yard touchdown run to put the Devils up 6-0. The two point conversion was no good and Warren County took a one touchdown lead into the locker room at the half.

The Bulldogs took advantage of excellent field position in the 3rd quarter and tied the score with a 37 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Owen Price. Harlem failed to convert the extra point and the score remained tied at the end of the period.

Neither team was able to score in the 4th quarter, sending the game into overtime.

Warren County won the toss and elected to start the overtime period on offense. On the very first play, Jarvis Collins rolled to his left and threw to My'Kuan Loney in the corner of the end zone for a 15 yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion again failed and the Devils led 12-6.

Jermaine Berry turns the corner for the Devils.

Harlem took over on offense needing a touchdown to extend the game. After an illegal procedure penalty pushed the Bulldogs back 5 yards, Price tried to go to the air on the left side himself. Stedman Hall sniffed it out for the Devils and intercepted the pass, sealing the victory for the Devils. Hall began running for the north end zone after the interception despite the officials blowing the play dead and ruling the game over. What initially appeared to be an instinctive touchdown run was really a dash by Hall with the game ball towards Seals in his car at the opposite end of the field. Hall was joined by the rest of his teammates and the cheerleaders in an emotional celebration with Seals at the far end of the field.

Collins threw for 57 yards on the night. He had 6 completions on 12 attempts and 1 interception. Johnquezus Neal also completed a 13 yard pass from the end zone as the punter after a bad snap. The pass was key in preventing a safety late in the game that would have given the Bulldogs the lead.

My'Kuan Loney was the leading receiver with 3 catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Jaden Hawkins added two catches for 24 yards and Marchavious Blair had 1 catch for 13 yards.
The Screaming Devils led every measure used to track a football game Friday night except the one that counts most. Warren County amassed more total yards, more first downs, and more time of possession than the Trojans of Tattnall Square Academy, but were unable to put points on the board. The Devils fell to 1-2 on the season after a tough 14-0 loss during their first trip to the home of the Trojans.

Tattnall Square took the field on offense on their own 23 yard line after the opening kickoff. The Trojans struck quickly on their second play from scrimmage with a 75 yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback, Destin Mack.

The Trojans found the end zone for the second time late in the first quarter. On 4th and 2, Mack connected with Ahmad Barron for a 65 yard pass completion. The play set up a 29 yard touchdown run by Jimmy Marshall.

The Screaming Devil defense kept Warren County in the game for the rest of the evening by holding the Trojans scoreless for the final three quarters. While the Devils would have their chances on offense, they couldn't find a way to punch it into the end zone.

Timothy Seals again led the Devils in rushing with 19 carries for 95 yards. Jermaine Berry had 3 carries for 19 yards. Jarvis Collins carried the ball 8 times for 16 yards, and Stedman Hall had 19 yards on 3 carries.
Jarvis Collins went 10 for 19 through the air for 93 yards with 3 interceptions. My'Kuan Loney was his leading receiver with 3 catches for 63 yards. Kentravious Brinkley had one reception for 26 yards. Zantez Hudson also had one catch for 5 yards.

The Screaming Devils entered Friday night's game against Glascock County looking to make it three wins in a week for Warren County Schools. Warren County Middle School started the football week off with an impressive victory over Washington County Middle School by the score of 24-10. The Screaming Devils followed that up with a 14-7 victory over Lincoln County on Thursday by a very short handed J.V. team. The Devils made the short trip to Gibson to cap off the week and gave their fans plenty to cheer about.

Warren County won the toss and elected to begin the game on defense. Stedman Hall kicked off for the Devils and Glascock began their first drive on their own 35 yard line. Warren County quickly got an idea of how the night would go when the Panthers fumbled the ball on their second play from scrimmage and Kelveonta Veasley recovered for the Devils. Three plays later, Jermaine Berry connected with My'Kuan Loney for an 18 yard touchdown pass for the first score of the night. Berry again threw to Loney for the two point conversion and the Devils took an early 8-0 lead with 10:10 to go in the first quarter.

The Panthers would answer to tie the score in the second quarter. Cole Moye connected with Nick Tyler for a 52 yard pass deep into Warren County territory. After converting on 4th down with a 6 yard pass, Moye took it to the end zone himself for the lone score of the night for Glascock. The two point conversion would tie the score at 8-8 with 3:20 to go in the 2nd quarter.

The tie score would last for only seconds. Timothy Seals took the ensuing kickoff 71 yards to answer right back for the Devils. Collins would again go to Loney through the air for the two point conversion, making the score 16-8.

The kickoff return for a touchdown brought Seals' total all purpose yards up to 255 yards, a career high. Jarvis Collins rushed for 39 yards on 10 carries, and Kentavious Griffin carried for 15 yards on 2 carries.

The Devils relied on the arms of both Berry and Collins to combine for a total of 100 yards through the air. Berry went 2 for 5 for 21 yards and one touchdown, while Collins went 6 for 7 for 79 yards and one touchdown.

The Warren County Middle School Screaming Devils took the field Wednesday night against the Golden Hawks of Washington County outnumbered by about 3 to 1. While the Devils may have been small in numbers, they certainly made up for it in heart. Warren County jumped out to an early lead and led the entire way to hand first year head coach, Keith Johnson, his first win.

Warren County began the game on offense after the opening kickoff at the 30 yard line. The Devils

were able to move the ball effectively in their opening drive down to just inside the 20 yard line of the Golden Hawks before their drive stalled. Washington County took over on downs at the 15 yard line.

Washington County's first play from scrimmage resulted in a 5 yard penalty and pushed them back to the 10 yard line. After gaining less than 10 yards, the Golden Hawks dropped back to punt deep in their own territory. The snap sailed over the punter's head and Tony Wynn scooped up the ball and walked into the end zone for the first score of the game. The Devils tacked on the two point conversion to lead 8-0 with 1:11 to go in the first quarter.

The Warren County defense would rise to the occasion again. The golden Hawks returned the ensuing kickoff down to the Warren County 47 yard line. After a big penalty negated a 42 yard run

and a Washington County touchdown, the Golden Hawks came right back with a 35 yard run to get into scoring position inside the 10 yard line of the Devils. Warren County would force a fumble on the very next play however and took over on offense on the 10 yard line.

Lovasea Carroll took the hand off on first down for the first of several impressive runs. Carroll rumbled 90 yards for the touchdown and the two point conversion put the Devils up 16-0 at the end of the first half.

Washington County would narrow the lead to 16-10 in the third quarter on a safety and a 31 yard shoestring pass completion for a touchdown. It appeared that the numbers game was catching up with the Devils as several players who played both offense and defense gasped for air and went down with cramps.

It would be Lovasea Carroll who would once again provide the Devils with a much needed spark. On 3rd and 6, Carrroll broke loose for a 65 yard touchdown run for Warren County's final score of the night. The two point conversion put the Devils up by the score of 24-10 with 6:53 to go in the 4th. An interception by Cortavian Wilder on Washington County's next possession sealed the victory,

Lovasea Carroll led the way on the ground for the Devils, racking up 228 yards on 16 carries.

After the game, all four Warren County coaches praised the Devils for their hard work, determination, and perseverance.

Lady Devils basketball team. Warthen played point guard for the Lady Devils and scored over 1,000
points in her last two seasons. Her quickness, feel for the game, and shot making ability made her one of the best high school players in the state and earned her a scholarship to Arizona.

Through all of her success on the court, Warthen never forgot where she came from and who was important to her. While the allure and opportunity was there for to leave her hometown to play high school basketball at larger and more successful schools, Warthen remained committed to her school and the teammates that she grew up playing with.
Warthen's commitment and dedication to her hometown was shown again in her speech at halftime Friday night. As she prepares for her transition to her pro career, Warthen thanked her hometown for all their support and expressed how much they all meant to her.
The Screaming Devils opened the 2015 season Friday night against the War Eagles of Putnam County. While the Devils recorded their second loss to the War Eagles in as many years, the game this year was much closer and showed signs of a more promising season to come.
The first half proved to be an offensive struggle for both teams. Neither team was able to get the running game going with penalties negating big plays on each side of the field. The War Eagles struck first by intercepting a short pass and returning it about 40 yards for a touchdown. The interception would be one of the very few mistakes by senior quarterback Jermaine Berry. Berry stepped back into the quarterback position after relinquishing the role to sophomore Jarvis Collins for the two scrimmage games. After the interception, Putnam County tacked on the extra point to lead the Devils 7-0.

Berry would redeem himself just seconds later in a big way by connecting with senior receiver My'Kuan Loney for a 50 yard reception. The reception set up a 1 yard touchdown run by Berry. The extra point attempt by Timothy Seals went wide right and the first quarter ended with the War Eagles on top by the score of 7-6.
Both offenses would threaten in the second quarter, but come up empty due to excellent defensive play from both teams.

The scoring picked up for both teams in the second half. Putnam County struck first to extend their lead to 8 points with a touchdown and extra point. Warren County would quickly answer with a 16 yard touchdown run and extra point by Seals to draw back within one. The third quarter ended with Putnam County still up by one, 14-13.

The fourth quarter provided plenty of excitement for fans of both teams as the two squads put up a combined 36 points, including a 67 yard Warren County touchdown pass to Stedman Hall. The Devils would score 6 less than the War Eagles in the fourth and come up just short by the score of 35-28 despite doubling their offensive performance from a year ago.
While the running game struggled, it was the passing game that provided most of the excitement for the night. The Devils passed for 177 yards, most coming from Jermaine Berry. Berry passed for 161 yards with 8 completions. Berry connected with My'Kuan Loney twice for a total of 53 yards, Zantez Hudson twice for 10 yards, Stedman Hall twice for 68 yards, and Jaden Hawkins twice for a total of 30 yards. Adding to the passing attack for the Devils was a 16 yard completion by Jarvis Collins to Berry.
His team quickly proved that they were ready to meet his expectations.

The Screaming Devils shut out Oglethorpe County by the score of 20-0 with a more mature and physical team than what Warren County fans have seen in recent years. This year's team has seven seniors, three more than last year. The Devils also have nine juniors. Most of these upperclassmen have seen significant playing time over the past three years as Warren County has worked to rebuild its football program.

The Devils spent much of the first half of Friday night's contest shaking off the rust of the offseason. After numerous false start penalties stalled the first few offensive drives of the contest, the Devils managed to put together a sustained drive late in the 2nd quarter. Facing a 4th and long deep in Patriot territory, Jarvis Collins connected with senior My'Kuan Loney for a 14 yard touchdown pass. Timothy Seals ran it in for the two point conversion and Warren County held an 8-0 lead at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, both coaches put their JV squads on the field and switched to a running clock for the 3rd quarter. The underclassmen for Warren County wasted no time in showing that they were eager to contribute to this year's campaign. Freshman Maleek Evans broke loose for a 54 yard touchdown run on his first carry to give the Devils a 14-0 lead early in the 3rd quarter. The Devil defense held the patriots to three plays and a punt. The Devils took over on the 46 yard line and handed the ball once again to Evans. In what appeared to be an exact replay of his previous run, Evans rumbled 54 yards for his second score of the quarter in only his second carry, putting the Devils up by a score of 20-0.

Maleek Evans led Warren County in rushing with 108 yards and 2 touchdowns on only 2 carries. Timothy Seals rushed for 42 yards on 6 carries. Johnquezus Neal carried the ball two times for 44 yards. Jermaine Berry also rushed for 21 yards on 5 carries.

Jarvis Collins proved to be more than ready to take over the quarterback duties in his sophomore year. Collins rushed for 21 yards and passed for 80 yards in an offensive that is designed to spread the field more than in years past. Collins connected twice with Stedman Hall for 31 yards, twice with Jermaine Berry for 35 yards, and once with My'Kuan Loney for 14 yards.

Coach Freeman was impressed by the heart showed by his team both during and after the game. Freeman stated, "Our kids played harder and with more heart than I have seen them play the past two years that I've been here." Coach Freeman also commented on how hard his team has worked this past year during the offseason to prepare. After an impressive win, on a warm, muggy night, the Devils were running sprints immediately after the game before the fans even left the field. Freeman added, "The guys came to me and said they weren't tired and asked if they could run sprints. That's the kind of dedication we've been working to build."

Warren County hits the road this weekend for a short trip to take on the Grovetown Warriors in a final scrimmage before opening the season the following week against Putnam county. If there is one team year in and year out that Warren County wants to beat more than any other, it's Lincoln County. Coming into this year, the two teams had played each other 39 times since 1971 and Lincoln County had won every game. The Red Devils made it 40 consecutive victories with a 23-0 victory Friday night.

The game began with both teams struggling to get their offense going while battling the rain in the early parts of the first quarter. Neither team was able to pick up a first down on their first possession and the game looked like it might turn out to be a defensive battle.
Quay Hartfield put the Red Devils on the board for their first score of the night after a 29 yard run. The extra point was good and Lincoln County led by the score of 7-0 with 6:34 to go in the first quarter.
Their second score of the night came after a failed Warren County fake punt on 4th down from their own 12 gave the Red Devils excellent field position. LaKeith Lockhart scored for the Red Devils on a 3 yard run. Lockhart also connected with Jamar Norman for a 35 yard touchdown pass to give Lincoln County a 20-0 lead at half-time.

The Red Devils final score of the night came in the fourth quarter with a 29 yard field goal by Ryan O'Neill.

Timothy Seals was once again the leading rusher for the Screaming Devils. Seals gained 50 yards on 15 carries.Jermaine Berry went 2-10 with 1 interception in the passing department. Berry completed a 14 yard pass to Jaden Hawkins and a 13 yard pass to Dantavious Allen.
The win was also the first victory on the road for Warren County since the 2011 season.

After three games of explosive offense, the night would be a defensive battle for both teams. Harlem would get on the board first with the only score in the first quarter. With 5:19 to go in the first, Tradaria Brown found the end zone after a 4 yard run. After the extra point, Harlem led by the score of 7-0.

Jermaine Berry would provide the lone score only other score in the first half. Berry put the Devils on the board with a 2 yard run with 6:49 to go in the second quarter. The extra point attempt by Seals was wide and the first half ended with the Bulldogs holding a slim 1 point lead by the score of 7-6.

The two teams would have to endure over an hour lightening delay at halftime. While some area games would be called due to weather at the half, the storms moved far enough away from Harlem to allow the teams to retake the field.

Neither team would score again until late in the fourth quarter. Warren County took their first lead of the night with 5:49 to go in the contest. Anquavious Hill punched it from the 1 yard line and Jermaine Berry scored on the 2 point conversion to give the Devils a 14-7 lead.

The Bulldogs wasted no time reclaiming the lead. Lane Phillips connected with Owen Price for a 53 yard pass completion to regain the lead. After the 2 point conversion, Harlem led 15-14.

Warren County went back on offense with 3:28 to go in the game. Devocea Lott would put the Devils ahead for good with a 22 yard run. The 2 point conversion failed and the Devils held just a 5 point lead by the score of 20-15.

Harlem had a final shot with 2:00 left in the fourth quarter, but the Warren County defense was up to the task and forced the Bulldogs to turn the ball over on downs, sealing the victory for the Devils.

Timothy Seals once again led the rushing for the Devils with 111 yards on 16 carries. Anquavious Hill carried the ball 7 times for 40 yards. Jermaine Berry had 20 yards on 8 carries and Devocea Lott had 25 yards on 3 carries.

Jermaine Berry was also 3-6 in passing. Berry threw for 80 yards with no interceptions. Berry connected with Devocea Lott for 49 yards, and Timothy Seals for 23 yards. In what is probably one of the strangest stats, Berry also completed a pass to himself for 8 yards. Berry's pass was batted back at the line of scrimmage into his own hands. Berry caught the ball and ran for an 8 yard completion.

Warren County was penalized more in the game than any other this year. The Devils had 19 penalties for 149 yards compared to only 5 penalties Bulldog penalties for 35 yards.

Coach Freeman was proud of the play of his team. Freeman stated, "We had to overcome a lot of adversity...we had things that didn't go our way, but the boys played through it all." Coach Freeman was especially proud of the way his team handled the pressure of a late Bulldog score and answered with one of their own to reclaim the lead.

The victory of Harlem pushes the Devils to .500 on the season with a 2-2 record. This week, the Devils travel to Wilkinson County to take on the Warriors. Warren County entered Friday night's game against Tattnall Square Academy with hopes of building upon the momentum of the previous week's victory over neighboring Glascock County. The Devils struggled defensively and were unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities, resulting in a 51-18 loss.
The scoring got off to a quick start for both teams in the first quarter. J.J. Battle of Tattnall Square wasted no time putting the Trojans on the board. Battle took the opening kick-off 92 yards for the first score of the game. Loftin Whiddon added the extra point to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead. Tattnall Square then kicked off to Warren County and the Devils took over on their own 38 yard line. On the Devil's first play from scrimmage, Timothy Seals broke loose for 62 yards to put the Screaming Devils on the board. The extra point attempt by Seals was blocked and after only 29 seconds of play, Tattnall Square held a 7-6 lead.

The Trojans would score again just a little over two minutes later on a 13 yard run by Ahmad Barron,
making the score 14-6. It appeared that the Devils would match the Trojans score for score after the Devils completed a long pass to put themselves inside the Tattnall 15 yard line. The drive would end without a Warren County score due to a fumble just one play later however. The Trojans took advantage of the opportunity and marched 85 yards for yet another 1st quarter score. The period ended with Tattnall tacking on two more points with a safety. The first quarter ended with the Trojans leading by the score of 23-6.

Devocea Lott posted Warren County's only score in the second quater with a 5 yard run TD run. The Trojans added two more scores and went to the locker room at the half with a 37-12 lead.
Warren County started the third quarter with a scoring drive capped by a 5 yard run by Anquavious Hill. It would be the Devils final score of the night however. The Trojans scored twice in the third quater and neither team scored in the fourth.
Freeman added, "We were very close to them stat wise. The turnovers and special teams just really hurt us this week." Warren County posted 237 yards of rushing compared to 288 yards of rushing by Tattnall Square. The Devils had 61 yards of passing while the Trojans posted 48 yards through the air.
The start of the 2014 football season also marks the beginning of the 9th consecutive season that the Screaming Devils have been broadcast on the radio and internet. Each Warren County game can be heard live at www.wtho.com and on delay immediately following the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers on WTWA 104.9.

I originally had the idea to broadcast just one game in 2006 when Thomson High School had an open date. I asked Thomson High broadcaster Dennis Sanders if he would be willing to help me with the first broadcast, and he graciously agreed. That first broadcast generated a lot of excitement and Warren County superintendent Carole Jean Carey charged me with finding a way to keep us on the air for the rest of the season.

After talking with Mike Wall, we devised a plan to broadcast Warren County football on delay immediately following the Thomson High School football games. The broadcast later evolved to include the live internet stream. Response from listeners was overwhelming. Fans who were unable to attend games due to work, health, or other reasons tuned in weekly to the radio and internet broadcasts. Alumni away at college as well as those who may have moved out of the area or are even deployed overseas have used to internet broadcast to stay connected to Warren County. The broadcast has even helped to create some new Warren County football fans as many in the area now tune in after leaving their own games and are travelling home.

Just hours before kickoff of this year's first broadcast, I was rushed to the hospital with abdominal and back pain. What I thought was another case of kidney stones turned out to be acute appendicitis. I awoke from surgery that evening just in time to tune into the night's broadcast. Warren County High School principal, Trevor Roberson and assistant superintendent, Dr. Tony Hill stepped up to take over the reins in the press box during my absence. Both have done an amazing job broadcasting the games each week and do a great job painting a picture of the action for the listeners. My surgery has reminded me of how important the broadcast can be for people who are unable to attend the games in person.

The Screaming Devil broadcasting program is in need of help, however. Due to declining sponsor support, the program is in danger of going off the air. The faculty and staff of Warren County schools answered the call to fund the first broadcast of the season. The Warren County Booster Club funded the second game of the year and this week's game against Tattnall Square is being sponsored by Don and Lynn Pesek. Funding for the remainding broadcasts is uncertain however, and anyone interested in becoming a sponsor is encouraged to contact Mr. Roberson by calling the school at 706-465-3742 or calling Dr. Hill at 706-465-3383.sswannhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11788468673405984607noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36809404.post-10679301397452550922014-09-01T13:53:00.001-04:002014-09-11T22:43:21.193-04:00Warren County Pounds Panthers of Glascock

It took 11 games for the Screaming Devils to earn Coach Freeman his first victory as Warren County head coach, but Friday night's victory over Glascock County did more than avenge last year's 28-6 loss to the Panthers. Friday's victory marked a turning point for the Devils and gave Coach Freeman's team an opportunity to give him a long anticipated ice water bath.
The first quarter was an offensive slugfest, with both teams unable to stop the opposing team's offense. Glascock County struck first on the opening possession off a 46 yard pass from Nick Tyler to Tre Little for a touchdown. Little tacked on two more with the two point conversion to give the Panthers the 8-0 lead with 9:12 to go in the first quarter. Warren County answered right away with Timothy Seals on a two yard run for his first score of the evening. Seals kick for the extra point was good and the Panthers still held a slim one point lead.

Both teams would score again in the first quarter. Tre Little scored again on a 3 yard run and converted the 2 point conversion to give the Panthers a 16-7 lead with 2:14 to go in the first quarter. The Devils only took 28 seconds to answer however with a score of their own. Devocea Lott scored on a 16 yard run and Timothy Seals kicked the extra point to narrow the score to 16-14.
Quarterback Jermaine Berry ran the two point conversion in with no time left on the clock and the teams went to the locker room with the score tied at 22-22. Warren County Offensive Coordinator, Ricky Ellis, stated, "That kick return by Lott was key to our success in the second half. It made all the difference in the mindset of our team at halftime."
The third quarter would be all Warren County. The Devils posted 14 unanswered points off of a 9 yard run by Lott and a 4 yard run by Seals. Seals' extra point attempt was good both times and the first quarter ended with Warren County holding a 14 point lead by the score of 36-22.

The Devils would stretch their lead to 21 in the fourth quarter when Jermaine Berry broke lose on a 51 yard run and Timothy Seals again kicked the extra point through the uprights. Seals added to Warren County's point total with a 4th quarter touchdown of his own and capped the scoring off for the Devils with his 6th extra point of the night. Glascock would strike twice themselves in the 4th quarter, but it would not be enough as Warren County led at the final horn by the score of 50-34.
Coach Freeman couldn't be happier with the performance of his team. "I credit the win to all the hard work in the offseason by the players and the coaches," said Freeman. Freeman went on to say, "I said last week that we had gotten one leg over the wall and now we just had to get the other leg over and find a way to win. I think we might have just done that."
While the Devils lost by the score of 34-13, there were signs of improvement over last season.

Putnam County struck first on a 45 yard run by Mike Hill with 7:23 to go in the 1st quarter. The extra point was good and the first quarter ended with the Devils only down by one score.

The Eagles struck again with 7:25 to go in the 2nd quarter on an 11 yard run by Xzavious Davis. Jared Cornado kicked the extra point to give Putnam County a 14 point lead. The Devils would quickly strike back however. 20 seconds later, Timothy Seals broke lose and scored on a 73 yard run and then tacked on the extra point for the Devils first score of the game. The teams went to the locker room with Putnam County holding onto a one touchdown lead by the score of 14-7.

The Eagles widened their lead with the only score of the third quarter on a 35 yard run by Mike Hill. The extra point was no good and the third quarter ended with the Eagles up by the score of 20-7.

Warren County would score again in the fourth quarter on a 12 yard run by Jermaine Berry. The extra point attempt by Seals was blocked. Putnam County sandwiched the Devils lone score in the 4th quarter with two scores of their own, leading to the final score of 34-13.

While the Devils didn't come away with a win, it was the best offensive and defensive performance for the Devils in some time. Warren County picked up 12 first downs, 145 yards rushing, and 22 yards through the air. Timothy Seals led the attack on the ground for the Devils with 136 yards on 11 carries. Devocea Lott had 7 carries for 20 yards, and Davtavious Allen had 18 yards on 5 carries. Jermaine Berry was 2 for 7 through the air with 2 interceptions. Berry had a 14 yard completion to Anquavious Hill and an 8 yard completion to Seals.

2nd year head coach, Cherard Freeman, praised the effort of his team. "Cardrez Slocumb had a great game, probably one of the best since he has been playing varsity. Timothy Seals ran the ball hard and Jermaine Berry put us in the right situation," stated Freeman. Freeman went on to say, "Coach Ellis had a great offensive game plan. We just had too many turnovers to overcome. We got one leg over the wall and just have to find away to get the other leg over."
