Warren County

Thomson
While the first meeting between the Screaming Devils of Warren County and the Bulldogs of Thomson was a lopsided affair, Saturday's action provided fans of both programs the excitement that they have come to expect from the biannual match up.

The night's action was kicked off by the future stars for both schools when the Junior Varsity Boys took the court. Warren County kept it close for much of the game but went to the locker room trailing at half time by a score of 32-26. Thomson's depth proved to be the determining factor in the game as they were able to substitute fresh legs into the game throughout the second half and go on to win by a score of 62-42. Jonathan Lewis led the scoring for Warren County with thirteen. Cameron Bolton was also in double digits with ten.

The second game of the night found the Lady Devils trying to recapture their winning form after dropping three region games in a row against Hancock, Aquinas, and Lincoln County. Warren County held a four point lead at the end of the first quarter by the score of 18-14. Many of the fans in attendance could feel an upset in the making. It was not to be, however, as Thomson took the lead with 5:04 to go in the second quarter by a score of 24-22. The Lady Dogs never relinquished their lead and went on to win by a score of 65-54. Candice Warthen once again led the scoring for Warren County with thirty-five. Kenyetta Reese added ten points to make it into double digits on the night. Leading scorers for Thomson were Keywanna Kendrick with nineteen, Zakia Wilson and Ajalia Brinson with thirteen each, and Natasha Ballard just short of double digits with nine points.

While the Lady Devils fall to 3-11 on the season, the improvement that they have made this year as a team was evident in the way that they were able to keep the game within reach against a AAA team that totally dominated them earlier in the year.

The boy's Varsity team only had about a week to prepare for their first meeting of the year with Thomson due to the fact that many of the basketball Devils were still on the football field. It was apparent in their second meeting, however, that the Screaming Devils were in full basketball mode and ready for everything the Dogs could throw at them.

Warren County jumped out to an early nine point lead but Thomson rallied to take the lead by a score of 19-16 at the end of the first quarter. The game went back and forth through out the second quarter and the Screaming Devils went into half-time up by three with the score 31-28.

The third quarter was all Thomson as the Dogs rallied to outscore the Devils by thirteen and take the lead going into the fourth quarter by a score of 53-43. Warren County was not about to go down quietly. The Screaming Devils opened the fourth quarter with ten unanswered points to tie the game at 53-53. The game was back and forth for the rest of the night as the standing room only crowd remained on their feet for the rest of the way. In the end, it was Tim Daniels hitting the game winning three point jump shot for Thomson with less than 15 seconds to go in the game to seal the win for the Dogs by a score of 72-69.

C.J. Williams led the Devils in scoring with eighteen points and rebounds with eleven. Tommy Seals followed closely with seventeen points of his own, twelve of them coming from beyond the three point line. Quamaine Walker had one of his best scoring nights of the season with thirteen points and Travis Burley added twelve points after scoring more than thirty the night before against Lincoln County.

Tim Daniels led the scoring for Thomson with twenty-one followed by Laquinton Fort with nineteen, Nathaniel Jones with ten, and Deltrick Sneed with nine points.

Warren County plays host to Glascock County Tuesday night as they continue their region schedule.
