ATLANTA, Ga. - The University of Arizona Wildcat women's basketball team swept its southern swing with a 79-66 win at Georgia State, in Atlanta, on Sunday to go with Friday's 88-46 win at Georgia Southern. The Wildcats move to 2-0 on the season with 49 points from sophomore guard Candice Warthen in the two contests.

"Candice Warthen was hot, shooting the ball really well," head coach Niya Butts said. "She also bailed us out when Davellyn Whyte got into foul trouble in the first half. Davellyn only played six minutes in the first half. Candice stepped up and we knew she was capable of a performance like that. We just hope it continues. This was a great team win overall."

Paced by Warthen's 36 points against the Panthers on Sunday, the Wildcats shot 42.3 percent from the field (22-52), 45.0 percent from behind the arc (9-20) and 81.3 percent from the charity stripe (26-32). Warthen was just three points shy of tying Arizona's school record for points in a game (39) and was 11 of 18 from the field with five three pointers. She also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.  More...
