Warren Middle Kicks off Basketball Season

The WCMS Screaming Devils opened up the Warren County basketball season last week with two games against the Tigers of Washington-Wilkes. A good crowd was on hand as fans have been eagerly awaiting the start of hardcourt action. Both squads played well for Warren County, splitting the two games against the Tigers.

Coach Vera Williams led the Lady Devils to an impressive opening game against the Tigers. The WCMS Lady Devils only managed one victory last season. Williams' squad almost matched that mark in their opening contest. The Devils kept the game close in the first half, but fell behind in the opening of the second. The Devils then went on a scoring spree to take the lead late in the fourth quarter. The Tigers managed to ralley and went ahead by one with less than a minute to go for the victory.

The Screaming Devils fared somewhat better in the second game against the Tigers. Coach Stephens led his boys team to a victory over the boys of Washingto-Wilkes. It took much of the first half to knock the rust off the boy's game as the Devils were called for numerous penalties to start the game. The second half saw Warren County settle down and begin to play fundamental basketball.

The Screaming Devils will take on Thomson Monday, November 19, at home. Come out and support your WCMS Screaming Devils.
