Coach Hutto bids a tough farewell

Screaming Devils football players were summoned to the media center this morning to hear the announcement that many had already feared for weeks now. Coach Hutto met with his team to break the news that he would no longer be their coach.

It has been widely speculated for weeks that Coach Hutto was the leading candidate for the Washington-Wilkes head coaching job. The speculation was laid to rest last night when the Washington-Wilkes Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Coach Hutto for the job. He will assume the athletic director duties as well as head football coach.

The meeting with his players this morning was an emotional one for both players and coach. Coach Hutto began by saying he appreciated everything that the team had done for him. "This is my first team as a head coach. Warren County will always have a special place in my heart", said Hutto.

Hutto encouraged his team to continue the things that have made them successful. "The groundwork has been laid...", said Hutto, "...continue the hard work, discipline, and dedication both on the field and in the classroom." Coach Hutto also said that he was sure that Warren County would find a great coach to build upon the recent Screaming Devil successes.

Through misty eyes, Coach Hutto ended the meeting by saying to his guys, "I love you, I care for you, and I'll miss you." He told them that he would always be there for them. Many players came up to hug their former coach and thank him for everything that he had done for them through the years.

Ja'net Bishop, Principal, Warren County High School, shared, "Mr. Hutto is a committed coach and believes in his students and athletes. He will be deeply missed and we wish him continued success in all of his endeavors."

When asked who he thought might take Coach Hutto's place, sophomore Coby Reynolds said, "Whoever they get will have some big shoes to fill."

Junior quarterback, Tay Erwin, summed up many of the players sentiments when he said, "We've just lost a great coach."

Well, what can I say? If you are from Warrenton, then you already know we just got a heavy dose of bad news for all Warren County High football players. We just ended the speculation surrounding the fact that Warren County just lost the best coach we have had in years. Speaking on behalf of the whole Screaming Devils football team, we just want to wish him the best of luck and say that Washington-Wilkes is lucky to have a coach/teacher like Coach Hutto. Farewell Coach. I just want to wish you and your family nothing but success as you start you new job. Just know that the Warren County football team will not forget you Mr./Coach Hutto. - Lamia Bell

Coach Hutto-
You are a great coach/teacher. I learned many things from you in life and football. You did nothing but good while in Warren County. Unfortunately, it had to end. I can't wait to beat you on the gridiron next year. I wish you the best of luck in the future. - Javier Lowe

To coach Lee Hutto a man that I admire and love: Coach Hutto you are like a father to me. I know you are a male role model in my life. You taught me so much about life, football, and the most important thing, becoming a man. Knowing I can be hard headed at times. You stayed on my behind. You gave me a chance when I was a tenth grader and i thank you for that. And tell your wife and the family that they are greatly appreciated. If I ever need something I will be sure to come to you and just because you are in Washington does not mean that I do not want to coach under you. Love Kentrell Latimore 21

I really appreciate what you have done for me. These last three years, you have shown me something I haven't seen before. You have shown me how to be a better person. I have been very blessed to meet you. Once again, we will all miss you.

There really isn't much to say except that Coach Hutto was like a father to me and the whole football team. He was a great coach to me and the team. Coach Hutto mean a lot to me because he taught me a lot about life. Coach Hutto, you are a great coach, but I just want you to know that I'll give it everything I've got whenever I line up against him and his new team.

Coach Hutto is a good coach. He is a cool and funny person to be around even though he always puts me to sleep in class!

He always tried to teach us not only to play the game, but also how to be a good person. Right before Homecoming, he took all our new equipment from us to try and motivate us. He realized what he did was wrong and did what any good man would do and apologized for it. I learned more from that than anything else.

Sometimes he used to get out there and run around and have fun with us. He always told us to bounce around and have fun.

I was the only freshman that started on everything this year and I want to say thanks to Coach Hutto and the rest of the coaching staff. They helped me prove to myself that you can do anything with a little bit of encouragement from somebody that loves you.

I am going to miss you coach Hutto. I wish you the best and maybe one day you will come back home to us before I graduate. -

Coach Hutto is a man with high standards. He is a great man that taught me a lot of things. He taught me things about life and football. Coach Hutto is a man of his word. Whenever any of his players was in need, he did his best to help them. He has lots of courage. I want him to know when we line up to play against each other I will put my best on the line. I will miss his family, him, and little brother Patterson.

I wish Coach Hutto would have finished my last season at Warren County with me. He's been like a 2nd father to me even though he's only the coach. He gave me the chance to show what I've got no matter how small I was as long as I was tough. I must have been tough enough since he told me I was the entire time I played for him.

Coach Hutto chose the right coaching staff because they taught me a lot about football and life. I'll miss you coach Hutto and good luck at your new job.
