Devils Capture Region Track Title

The Screaming Devils raced to the top of Region 4A track with impressive Region Championship victories by both the boy's and girl's teams. This year's region meet was hosted by Washington-Wilkes and held at Laney High School in Augusta, GA.

Warren County recaptured the region title on the boy's side from last year's champions, Wilkinson County. According to head coach, Richard Arrington, "We knew Wilkinson was fast. We just worked hard all season and got better in time for the region meet."

Results for the boys were:

1st Place: Coby Reynolds in the 100 meter dash, & the 200 meter dash; Cornelius Pinkston in the 800 meter run; Kentrell Latimore in the 110 meter high hurdles; Jonathan Lewis in the shotput and the discus; Cornelius Pinkston, Ricardo Jones, Coby Reynolds, and Kentrell Latimore in the 1600 meter relay.

2nd Place: Antonio Benton in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, and the long jump; Cornelius Pinkston in the 400 meter run; Tay Erwin in the triple jump; Kentrell Latimore, Antonio Benton, Andrew Webb, and Coby Reynolds in the 400 meter relay.

3rd Place: Coby Reynolds in the long jump; Mark Cosby in the discus; Tay Erwin in the high jump; Andrew Webb, Antonio Benton, Steve Burley, and Tay Erwin in the 1600 meter relay.

The Lady Devils track team, coached by Marleau Blount, returned many from last year's region championship team and was heavily favored by many to repeat as champions this year. The Lady Devils easily lived up to everyone's expectations. Coach Blount worked hard all season preparing his team for the region championship. Coach Blount commented, "I am very confident going into the state competition at Hugh Mill Stadium in Albany, GA."

Girl's Results were:

1st Place: Candice Warthen in the long jump, high jump, and 100 meter dash; Lakerria Williams in the triple jump; Tykesia Johnson, Lakerria Williams, Tiandra Harris, and Candice Warthen in the 4x100 meter relay.

2nd Place: Tynisha Harris in the discus; Cedrica Bacon in the shot put; Jashanna Graves in the 1600 meter; Tiandra Harris in the 110 meter hurdles.

3rd Place: Jashanna Graves in the 800 meter; Kelisia Williams in the 110 meter hurdles; Sondrea Hardin, Tianca Evans, Candice Warthen, and Lakerria Williams in the 1600 meter relay.

1st and 2nd place winners will advance to the state competition to be held in May.
