Against Aquinas
Both Warren County varsity teams struggled against a region opponent for the second consecutive night. Tuesday night found the Screaming Devils on the road again, this time at Aquinas in Augusta.
Freshman, Candice Warthen, had one of her best nights on the season against the Fighting Irish. It was, however, not enough to overcome the home court advantage enjoyed by Aquinas. Warthen had twenty-nine points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Quavoncia Walker was held to single digit scoring for the second night in a row with only 4 points. Kenyetta Reese, Tyneisha Harris, Tyeisha Tanksley, and Lashundria Reynolds also contributted points for the Lady Devils. Sondrea Hardin was the team's second leading rebounder with six, one behind Harris and Warthen who each seven. The Fighting Irish defeated the Lady Devils by a score of 41-49.
It was a tough night also for Coach Wallace and his team of Screaming Devils. Early in the game, most of the screaming was done by the official's whistle as Warren County spent much of the first half in foul trouble. Aquinas jumped out to a 10-1 lead without making a field goal by being able to score from the free-throw line. Aquinas found themselves in the enviable position of being in the double-bonus halfway through the first quarter.
Credit the Screaming Devils with once again refusing to quit however. Just as they did against Hancock, Warren County pulled within two before the whistles started to blow once again. Aquinas was then able to once again take advantage of the trips to the free-throw line to pull out the win by a score of 65-79.
The Screaming Devils were led in scoring by junior Tommy Seals. Seals had twenty-four points on the night. Eighteen of those points came from the three-point line as Seals completed almost fifty percent from beyond the three-point arc. Quadrez "Disco" Reese, the only other Screaming Devil to post double digit scoring, posted ten points with one three-pointer. Travis Burley and C.J. Williams led the team in rebounds with nine and eight respectively.
Warren County plays host to region foe Lincoln County Friday night. Saturday night finds the Screaming Devils in action once again at home in the second game of the season against Thomson. Be sure to come early as it is sure to be standing romm only.
