Devils Finding Their Stride

The Warren County Screaming Devils kicked off the defense of their 2006 State Championship in track. Both the girls and boys competed in their first meet of the year at Jefferson County Thursday night. Both teams finished with a respectable second place showing.

Warren County, a traditional powerhouse in track and field, used this first meet to gain valuable competitive experience for a young Screaming Devil team. Many of the competitors for Warren County were competing in events for the first time. According to the girl's Coach Blount"This first event is simply a learning experience for our team. We should be ready to go by April." The same was true for Coach Arrington's boys. "Many of our guys are still learning which events they can go hard from the start and which events to hold something back for the finish." said Arrington.

Warren County had several individual bright spots in the meet. Jacobian Blount placed first in the shot. C.J. Williams won first in the discus and Maquell Williams placed first in the 300 meter hurdles. Posting second place individual results for the boys were Roderick Moss in the 200 meter dash, Marquavious Lester in the 400 meter dash, Maquell Williams in the 110 meter intermediate hurdles, Kentrell Latimore for the long jump, Kyree Liggins in the discus, Ivory Story for the shot put and Quamaine Walker in the triple jump.

In the girl's division, Candace Warthen posted a winning time in the 200 meter dash and a second place time in the 100 meter. Nacoasha Grissom easily came away with a first place win in the discus and a third showing in the shot put. Cedrica Bacon scored points for Warren County by placing second in the shot put. Tyeisha Tanksley placed first in the Triple Jump and Lakeria William followed that up with a second place finish in the triple jump. More results from the girls action to follow.
