Screaming Devils fall to Swainsboro

The Screaming Devils came up short against the Tigers of Swainsboro Friday night. The night got off to a stormy start when the game was delayed just before kick-off due to lightning. The game finally got under way at about 8:45, after a 1 hour and 15 minute delay.

The storm seemed to set the tone for the Devils as they turned the ball over on the first play from scrimmage on what seemed to be to most everyone in attendance an incomplete pass. Everyone except the official, that is. The official ruled the play a lateral when the Swainsboro defender fell on the ball. Swainsboro quickly scored to go on top and never relinquished the lead. The Tigers went to their bag of tricks on the ensuing kick-off as they broke an unorganized huddle and quickly ran up for an onside kick. The Devils were caught somewhat off guard and were unable to come up with the ball. Warren County spent much of the first quarter trying to adjust to the Tiger's fast-paced no huddle spread offense. The quarter ended with the Tigers on top by a score of 14-0.

The second quarter saw the Screaming Devils begin to make some progress against the Tigers. Warren County was able to find their way onto the scoreboard and added a two point conversion, but not before Swainsboro added a score of their own. The half ended with Swainsboro taking a 21-8 lead into the locker room.

The game took the tone of a defensive battle for most of the third quarter. The Tigers depth and size ultimately won out as Swainsboro went on to win by a score of 31-21. Tommy Seals managed to find the endzone with about an 80 yard run as time ran out for Warren County's last score of the game.
