Warren County Wins Big Over Washington-Wilkes

Warren County opened the 2007 season at home against the Tigers of Washinton-Wilkes. The Screaming Devils entered the game with high expections behind the leadership of four year starter, Tommy Seals. Few outside Warren County shared the Devils' confidence as many were picking Washington-Wilkes to win despite the Tiger's youth and inexperience on both sides of the ball. Seals and company quickly sent a message to the single A community that they are a force to be reckoned with in '07.

The game saw W-W take the opening kick-off and move the ball effectively for their best possession of the game. The Tigers managed three first downs on the opening drive as they got the ball all the way down to about the Warren County twenty yard line. The Screaming Devils bowed their backs, however, and forced the Tigers to turn the ball over on downs. The Warren County offense then took over as they put together a long sustained drive to the endzone that stretched all the way into the beginning of the second quarter. The 1st quarter ended with 71 yds of total offense for the Devils and 63 yards for the Tigers.

Warren County then took control in the 2nd quarter, posting 148 yards of total offense with 74 coming in the air to a total of only 6 offensive yards by Washington-Wilkes. Warren County had built a comfortable 20-0 lead at the half. The 3rd quarter saw the Screaming Devils pick up where they left off in the 1st half, as they put together 160 yds of offense, all of which came on the ground, to the Tiger's 24 yds. Seals showed his defensive skills as he came up with a big interception as well. The 3rd ended with Warren up 33-0.

The Devils used their comfortable lead to get some playing time for their freshmen and sophmore players in the 4th quarter. Tay Erwin (Soph.) took over the QB position, Dominique Menchaca (Soph.) came in at wing-back, and Steve Burley (Freshman) took over the fullback position. Several freshmen and sophmore linemen came in as well. While Warren County failed to score in the fourth, the game did provide valuable experience to our young guys.Warren County also substituted on the defensive side of the ball, allowing the Tigers to score twice while teaching our younger guys some lessons that can only be learned during game time experience.

Standouts:

Tommy Seals, 107 yds. rushing and 74 yds. passing
Kentrell Latimore, 80 yds. rushing on 12 carrys
Devarrus Reynolds, 41 yds. on 5 carrys, 2 receptions for 43 yds.
Coby Reynolds, (Freshman) 61 yds. on 5 carrys, 12.2 yds/carry
