Thrilling Start to a New Era

The Screaming Devils kicked off a new era in Warren County football by playing their first game in the new stadium Friday night in front of one of the largest home crowds for Warren County all year. Friday night was also the final home game for the season and was set aside to honor all the seniors of WCHS that have competed in fall sports, played in the band, and served as a cheerleader. The pre-game festivities included each senior being escorted onto the field and introduced to the crowd by Athletic Director, Richard Arrington.

The Screaming Devils provided the excited crowd with a thrilling first game opener for the new stadium. Warren County dug themselves a hole early on by giving up two quick scores to the Warriors of Wilkinson County. The Screaming Devils found themselves down by a score of 12-0 before the end of the first quarter. Warren County's high powered offense was not about to let the Warriors deny them of the first game victory. The Devils took a 16-12 lead into the locker room at half-time by effectively mixing up the running game with the passing attack.

The Warren County Marching Band entertained the half-time audience with their usual show and then treated the fans to something special. The Screaming Devil drumline matched up and did battle with the Warrior drumline at centerfield as both bands looked on from the sidelines. Both drumlines brought the crowd to their feet with the Warren County team drawing the most cheers.

The second half kept every fan in attendance and those listening on the internet and radio glued to their seats as the lead swapped hands several times. Warren County took a 21-18 point lead late in the fourth quarter. Wilkinson County marched down the field and silenced the Warren County faithful when Warrior quarterback, Arthur McDowell completed a touchdown pass on fourth and twelve from the twenty-five yard line. The Devils were not done yet. Seals marched his team 73 yards down the field with passes to Travis Burley, Quay Lester, and Devarrus Reynolds. The final pass was a 26 yard touchdown pass to Burley with 7 seconds remaining on the clock.

The warriors made one last attempt at tying up the game by running the kick-off back all the way down to the 7 yard line before being shoved out of bounds by Reynolds sealing the victory by a score of 31-24.
