Warren County Falls to Cross Creek

Warren County began their 2011-2012 basketball season November 22 against Cross Creek in Augusta by dropping both games against the AAA Razorbacks.  The Screaming Devils traveled to Cross Creek to participate in a Thanksgiving tournament being hosted by Cross Creek.

The Lady Devils took to the court first and struggled to get their offense clicking.  Warren County had trouble handling the press from Cross Creek as the Razorbacks opened up a 22-9 lead in the first quarter.  The Lady Devils only managed 3 points in the second quarter while the Razorbacks added 16 points to lead by the score of 38-11 at the half.  Warren County's offensive woes continued into the second half and the Lady Devils fell to the Razorbacks by the score of 61-20.

Tomeka Harris led the Lady Devils in scoring with 8 points.  Ranisha Andrews contributed with 5 points.  Tyjah Hill had 4 points and Shea Kuhn added 3 points.

The boy's game had the gym rocking from the opening minutes as neither team was able to lay claim to a substantial lead throughout the game.  Cross Creek went on a run at the end of the first quarter to open up a 6 point lead by the score of 12-6.  It would be either team's largest lead of the night as the game remained tight for the rest of the way.  Warren County outscored the Razorbacks 16-11 in the second quarter and both teams went to the locker room with Cross Creek holding a 1 point lead by the score of 23-22.

The Devils scored 18 points in the third period to take a 2 point lead by the score of 40-38 into the fourth period.  The lead swapped back and forth throughout the fourth period.  Warren County was down by two when the Devils scored a last second basket to tie the game at 52-52 and send the game into overtime.  The Razorbacks outscored the Devils 10-5 in the overtime period to claim a 62-57 victory.

Leading scorer on the night for Warren County was Ed'Ricus Williams with 14 points.  Bentravious Ramsey added 13 points.  Jabari Wilson and Richard Wilburn were also in double digits with 12 points in the contest.  Jeremy Norris contributed with 5 points and Jacquez Menchaca chipped in with 1 point from the free throw line.

Both Screaming Devil teams return to action Friday, December 2 when they travel to Milledgeville to take on the Bulldogs of GMC.
