Warren County Middle School students are enjoying the addition of a new sport to the athletic department. 2012 marks the first year for soccer in Warren County. The new co-ed middle school soccer program is the direct result of the efforts of Coach Jimy Dominquez to establish the sport in Warren County.
The team has played two games and interest in the program has grown with each game. Coach Dominquez added six players to the roster after the first game against Thomson. Despite losing the first two games of the season, excitement about the soccer program is spreading among students, administrators, and parents.
Coach Dominquez noticed major improvement in his team after Thursday's game against Burke County. "We improved in all aspects of our game including dribbling, passing, and most importantly, the play of our goalie," stated Dominquez. Most impressive was the fact that the team wanted to continue playing even though time had expired.
Coach Dominquez has plans to grow the soccer program at Warren County and looks forward to the day when the program includes a high school varsity team that allows his current players the opportunity to continue to play beyond the 8th grade.
The Devils will take to the field again Monday against Wrens Middle School in Wrens.
