WCMS Opens With Big Win Over WACO

The Warren County Middle School Screaming Devils took the field Wednesday night against the Golden Hawks of Washington County outnumbered by about 3 to 1. While the Devils may have been small in numbers, they certainly made up for it in heart. Warren County jumped out to an early lead and led the entire way to hand first year head coach, Keith Johnson, his first win.

were able to move the ball effectively in their opening drive down to just inside the 20 yard line of the Golden Hawks before their drive stalled. Washington County took over on downs at the 15 yard line.

Washington County's first play from scrimmage resulted in a 5 yard penalty and pushed them back to the 10 yard line. After gaining less than 10 yards, the Golden Hawks dropped back to punt deep in their own territory. The snap sailed over the punter's head and Tony Wynn scooped up the ball and walked into the end zone for the first score of the game. The Devils tacked on the two point conversion to lead 8-0 with 1:11 to go in the first quarter.

The Warren County defense would rise to the occasion again. The golden Hawks returned the ensuing kickoff down to the Warren County 47 yard line. After a big penalty negated a 42 yard run

and a Washington County touchdown, the Golden Hawks came right back with a 35 yard run to get into scoring position inside the 10 yard line of the Devils. Warren County would force a fumble on the very next play however and took over on offense on the 10 yard line.

Lovasea Carroll took the hand off on first down for the first of several impressive runs. Carroll rumbled 90 yards for the touchdown and the two point conversion put the Devils up 16-0 at the end of the first half.

Washington County would narrow the lead to 16-10 in the third quarter on a safety and a 31 yard shoestring pass completion for a touchdown. It appeared that the numbers game was catching up with the Devils as several players who played both offense and defense gasped for air and went down with cramps.

It would be Lovasea Carroll who would once again provide the Devils with a much needed spark. On 3rd and 6, Carrroll broke loose for a 65 yard touchdown run for Warren County's final score of the night. The two point conversion put the Devils up by the score of 24-10 with 6:53 to go in the 4th. An interception by Cortavian Wilder on Washington County's next possession sealed the victory,

Lovasea Carroll led the way on the ground for the Devils, racking up 228 yards on 16 carries.

After the game, all four Warren County coaches praised the Devils for their hard work, determination, and perseverance.

Warren County travels to Jefferson County to take on Louisville next Wednesday. Game time is set for 5:00
