Middle School Devils post win over Golden Hawks

The WCMS Devils scored a big victory in football action today as they defeated the Golden Hawks of Washington County by a score of 20-8. The Devils built upon the impressive showing last week against Thomson and dominated the game on both defense and offense.

The game was a defensive battle until mid-way through the second quarter when Warren County fumbled on about their 27 yard line. It seemed the Devils' defense would hold until the Golden Hawks were able to score from the 11 yard line on 4th and 3. Washington County converted the two point conversion to take the lead by a score of 8-0. It would be the Hawks only score of the night.

Warren County started their next drive from the 39 yard line. After a 5 yard run by Devarus Davis, Quintavious Johnson carried the ball into Hawks territory and down to the 45 yard line. Dennis Clarke then threw to Johnson at the 30 and it was off to the races as Johnson went to the house for the 45 yard touchdown completion. The two point conversion was no good, leaving the Devils down 8-6.

The Devils got one more shot at the endzone in the first half after holding Washington County to three plays and a punt. Warren County got the ball on the 46 yard line and Clarke connected again to Johnson at the 30 yd. line for a 16 yard completion. The Devils went to the endzone on the ensuing play and came up short as the ball was batted away. The half ended with Warren County trailing 8-6.

The second half was all Warren County as the defensive line for the Screaming Devils kept the pressure on the Golden Hawks. After neither team scored in the third quarter, Devonta Davis forced a fumble at the 48 yard line and Ed Williams picked it up and looked to be about to score before being dragged down at about the one foot line. The Devils scored on the next play and added the two point conversion to take the lead 14-8.

The Golden Hawks went to the air in their next possession unsuccessfully on four straight plays as Dextrell Norris and Javonte Reynolds provided excellent pass coverage for the Devils. Warren County added some insurance as Devarus Davis scored another touchdown with a 15 yard run to make the final score 20-8.
