Marching to a New Beat

The Warren County Screaming Devils Band has done an about face this season and much of their improvement is due to the leadership of first year band director, Scott Richardson. Richardson comes to Warren County with a distinguished record of leading quality bands in the area such as Butler High School and Laney High School.

Mr. Richardson quickly instilled discipline and order to the band through intense summer workouts. Many who were familiar with the band of previous years were shocked to see the progress this year's band had made in just a short period of time. Not only does Mr. Richardson have the band sounding good but through the efforts of the booster club, the band is now looking good as well. The WCHS Marching Band sports new uniforms to go along with their new sound this year.

The Screaming Devil band also includes an improved flag corp and dance line. Both auxilary corps are outfitted with new uniforms as well. The precision that the auxilary teams display every Friday Night adds to the performance of the band. This year's dance line is under the direction of Ms. Jennifer Adams, a teacher at M.E. Freeman Elementary School.

The Screaming Devils Band has competed in several competitions this year. The biggest accolade came when they placed 3rd in the Battle of the Bands in Augusta on September 30. They also travelled to Valdosta State to participate in their homecoming festivities. The WCHS band has also been asked to participate in several area parades this year.
